Orlando Devs Website Refresh and Engineering a Custom GPT for Success
As part of my ongoing work to contribute to the thriving Orlando Devs community, I’m excited to share some insights into our latest project: the Orlando Devs Website Refresh. This project goes beyond simple design updates—it involves modernizing the site with cutting-edge technology and AI, and ensuring it reflects the innovation and energy of Orlando’s vibrant developer scene.
The Orlando Devs Website Engineer 1.0: A Custom GPT Engineered for Success
One of the standout aspects of this project has been my development of Orlando Devs Website Engineer 1.0—a custom AI built to assist with project management, technical guidance, and task automation. This AI isn’t just a tool, it’s designed to grow with the project, learning from each team interaction and delivering tailored, real-time support as we push forward.

How It Works: Building and Deploying a Custom GPT
For this project, I leveraged the capabilities of GPT-4 to create a system that provides continuous technical support, organizes tasks, and offers insight to the development team. The process involves:
Gathering Requirements: Understanding the needs of the team, the scope of the project, and key objectives for the website refresh.
Training the GPT: Using knowledge bases, project documents, and real-time feedback to train the AI, ensuring it can offer relevant solutions and guidance. All new developments are fed into the AI for continuous learning.
Deploying the GPT: Integrating the AI into our Slack workspace and repository. This allows team members to interact with the AI directly, querying it for specific tasks or guidance on tech stack decisions, design choices, or content management workflows.
The GPT has become a central hub of communication and collaboration, streamlining many aspects of the project and ensuring we stay on track. It's designed to integrate with tools like GitHub and Netlify, providing seamless updates and real-time task automation.
The Vision for the Project
The Orlando Devs website is more than just a resource—it’s a platform that reflects the excellence of our developer community. We’re working on key features that include:
Event Calendar Integration: Seamlessly pulling event data from platforms like Eventbrite and displaying it dynamically on the site.
Modern, Mobile-First Design: Ensuring the site is responsive and looks great on all devices.
SEO and Performance Enhancements: Optimizing the site to load quickly and rank highly on search engines, ensuring visibility and ease of access for users.
My role in this project isn’t just about AI development; it’s about fostering a collaborative environment where team members can grow, connect, and achieve their goals together. Personally, this project aligns with my broader vision of AI democratization and community-driven innovation, where we can all leverage technology to improve the way we work and live.
How This Fits Into the Bigger Picture
This project is also part of my larger journey as a tech professional—continually expanding my skill set, building connections, and exploring new opportunities in the field of AI, web development, and beyond. As I contribute to the growth of the Orlando Devs community, I’m also growing my portfolio and enhancing my expertise, particularly in areas like custom GPT development.
