Progress Update: November 2024

The Orlando Devs Website Refresh Project has reached an exciting milestone! With incredible momentum from the community and contributions from talented team members, we’re pushing forward with a comprehensive roadmap to redesign and revolutionize the Orlando Devs website. This initiative not only enhances user experience but also strengthens our ability to foster meaningful community connections and streamline operations.

In a recent collaborative meeting with David Kerr, we delved into the latest developments for the new site. David presented the prototype he has deployed on Vercel, demonstrating significant progress on the homepage, sponsor cards, social links, and code of conduct page. We also discussed the challenges of working with multiple third-party platforms like Eventbrite and Meetup. To overcome these bottlenecks, we’re pivoting towards creating a centralized, self-reliant infrastructure, using Astro and integrating AI-first approaches to manage dynamic content generation and streamline event creation processes.

Key Enhancements in Progress

   • Transitioning from reliance on Eventbrite and Meetup to building a centralized event calendar.

   • Implementing an automated onboarding process for sponsors, including tiered sponsorship options and payment processing.

3. Community-Focused Features:

   • Enhanced navigation for mobile users with intuitive button-based menus.

   • Streamlined pathways for contributors, sponsors, and new users to engage with the Orlando Devs community.
